| I think Gods & Generals and Gettysburg were both excellent. If I could only watch one, I would definitely watch Gettysburg though. I thought they did an excellent job with Pickett's charge. |

| Gods and Generals all the way. I espically like the special features that come with it. It shows how they made the movie and everything, its really interesting...The people that are on it dont know their history well, but with the other features it makes up for it very well. Gettysburg was alright. I think the fellow that played Longstreet in Gods and Generals would have been a better Longstreet in Gettysburg, I honestly dont think Tom Berenger was that great. I honestly think it was a great movie, but they should remake it with the cast from Gods and Generals and have them play their parts over and have Steven Lang at Pickett again. Glory was a good movie as well. One I didnt see on here is Andersonville. Thats one movie that I really enjoyed, I dont know how much truth there is to the actual plot, but It was still a good movie. |

well, i havnt heard of andersonville, but at the end of gettysburg it says that it is part of a trilogy, along with gods and general, but iv'e searched everywhere and cant find the supposed third film. i think it was called"the final push" or sumthin' _________________ "we'll fight them 'till *beep* freezes over sir, then we'll fight on the ice." ~ anonymous confederate soldier, after the battle of gettysburg.

Andersonville was just its own movie. It was ok. Who do you think plays a better Lee, Duval or Sheen?
I think Gettysburg's only flaw is its focus on Longstreet, think the focus should be on Lee. The movie definitely takes Longstreet's side of the strategic offensive/tactical defensive, ie. Lee should've slipped between Meade and Washington and sat on a Federal attack.
But again I still love Gods & Generals too. I think Gods & Generals did an excellent job showing the futility of assaulting Marye's Height and did an excellent job depicting Jackson's left hook striking Hooker's right at Chancellorsville. Of course the focus here is Jackson and I thin Lang does it well, though its a little weird that he's also Picket in Gettysburg which is actually the prequel. |

Definatly Duvall. He is actually a decendent of Robert E. Lee on his mothers side. If you watch the special features on Gods and Generals, he mentions that. Also on a made for T.V. movie that he did for the Hallmark channel, I cant remember the name but hes a cowboy in it that helps save some chineese girls from becoming prostitues. But I had some pards that watched it and when He dies in the end, they said when they showed his body he looked just like Lee, and when you take a picture of Duvall and Lee, they look almost identical, It's really cool!

yeah, id hafta say Duvall too, and i agree that there should of been more focus on lee in "gettysburg", but aside from that i thought they did a great job with it. and i liked "gods and generals" even more because of its focus on "stonewall" jackson. i also liked glory cause of how it showed people who thought there was only discrimination in the confederate army, that it was just as bad, and probably worse. i had one pro-north friend who watched glory, and his mouth was literally gapin' when he saw it. he said he couldnt beleive how they portrayed the union army. i just had ta laugh. _________________ "we'll fight them 'till *beep* freezes over sir, then we'll fight on the ice." ~ anonymous confederate soldier, after the battle of gettysburg.

The third part of the trilogy is called "The Last Full Measure." According to someone who mentioned this earlier, it is not being made because "Gods and Generals" didnt make enough...Which really sucks cause I have been looking forward to watching it. You would think the producer (Tom something or other....kagillionare) wouldnt care about what it cost to make it and make it to show the history like he said in the special features in "Gods and Generals." I wish they would just do it because almost every reenactor would probably see it and or buy it!

I read somewhere that they were trying hard to make that last one, but Ted Turner has a hard time getting enough reenactors and getting the permits and other red tag administration to finish his trilogy.
We are looking around here in Europe to get a hand on "Andersonville", at least a version we can play on European dvd-players. _________________ Learning with pleasure, teaching in leasure |

Gods and Generals got a lot of criticism amongst the cultural Marxists. They said it was “pro confederate”. In fact it was just less politically correct than usual. “Birth of a Nation” is of course “verboten” because it portrays the Reconstruction era Ku Klux Klan as something less than unmitigated evil. Woodrow Wilson after seeing the film praised it and said it was “like writing history with lightning”. But he grew up in Augusta Georgia and Columbia South Carolina during reconstruction so what could he have possibly known about it?
“Gone With the Wind” is of course the perennial whipping boy for the cultural Marxists (even though the story is historically accurate) "Cold Mountain" was non PC in some respects (portrayed a Native American fighting for the South and an African American as an integral part of the Southern army) but since it also highlighted some unsavory aspects of the South the PC police accepted it.
One great movie that didn’t show up in this poll was “Ride With the Devil”. It pretty much told the truth about the war in the west and portrayed an African American fighting for the South so the PC police did everything they could to suppress it. Guess such a movie could only have been made by a non-American (Ang Lee). Most American film makers wouldn’t have touched it with a ten foot pole. _________________ "The love of money is the root of this, as of many other evils. The quarrel between the North and South is, as it stands, solely a fiscal quarrel."

| The reason why 'Gods & Generals' is 'pro-confederate' is because that's what the makers of the film wanted. 'Gs & Gs' is pro-confederate, 'Gettysburg' is neutral and 'Last Full Measure' is pro-Union. Shame 'Last Full Measure' is probably not going to be made. |

thats a shame. they need to go ahead and make it to complete the "trilogy".
i was going to add ride with the devil, but ive never seen it and have only read the summary of it. _________________ "we'll fight them 'till *beep* freezes over sir, then we'll fight on the ice." ~ anonymous confederate soldier, after the battle of gettysburg.
