What is everyones thoughts on the Presidental Election of 1864? I believe it was an extremely signifigant part of the Civil War. If Lincoln won, the war would continue till it was finished, costing more and more lives. If McClellan won, a peace would be brought between the North and the South. so, just leave your remarks!

| I look at the 1864 election as extremely important. Now, I don't think its the actual election day itself that is important because on that particular day it was pretty apparent that Lincoln was going to win since the war was going in the North's favor; but from July 1863 until the election, the South is still essentially fighting for a political victory. Like you said if Lincoln wins, the war continues; if McClellan wins, well, its speculation, but the man did run on a peace platform. |

| The election of 1864 was very important. For the CSA, it was the only chance of survival. If Lincoln lost, which seemed likely, the Confederacy would have won. Lincoln himself though that he was going to lose. But the fall of Atlanta and Sheridan's success in the Shenandoah returned people's faith in Lincoln. |
