Hello everyone, I am new to the forum.
Got a question for you. Pull for the Union or the Confederacy. I am definately pro-south and always will be. I despise Yankee scum like "honest" Abe ans Ulysses Grant especially, but do not let that give you a bad first impression of me or let it affect your vote.

| Just like Robert E. Lee, Virginia is my home and if it succeeds I will go with it. So the Confederacy or CSA wins my vote |

Just like Sharpshooter i would fight for whoever my state joins(Texas). Even though it would be hard to fight for the north since Texas is one of the states farthest south. So im pretty sure Texas would fight for the south. _________________ The Confederacy will prevail |

I would fight for the North. While I admire and respect the bravery of the Confederate Army, I despise what they stood for. They fought for the right to keep other men as slaves. They were fighting against freedom, and God was watching.
I have deep respect for men like Lee, Jackson and Longstreet. I think the Confederate Army was full of good and Godly men. But it will never change the cause for which they fought. And that forever tarnishes them in my view. |

FOJ, thanks to people like you, most people think the Confederacy is racist and fought to keep slavery. When indeed the south fought because the north kept taxing them. If you were to read some books, you'd know that as soon as Lincoln was sworn into office he passed the biggest tax in U.S. history(about 47%). Even though the north had more people than the south, the south payed 80% of the taxes. The thought that the south fought for slavery is what yankees want us to think. Even though most schools teach this thought to their students, it is wrong. You need to start reading some books. And don't mess with the south. _________________ The Confederacy will prevail |

Schools teach that? My school must just weird then becuase even though I'm in PA, we learned the real causes the Confederacy faught for. I guess every school is different though. _________________ "I want you to prove yourselves. The eyes of thousands will look on what you do tonight." -Col. Robert Gould Shaw, 54th Mass. Inf. |

bankssoldier - with all respect, you have no idea what I have read on this subject. Did I say that slavery was the ONLY reason for the war? or even THE reason for the war? I simply said the South was fighting to preserve slavery, and it was doing just that.
Please try not to insult people's intelligence in your replies. I'm new here, but if this is indicative of what passes for discussion here, then I'll gladly move on. |

“ the South was fighting to preserve slavery”?
That is just a plain old fashioned unadulterated LIE. I know that is the “party line” of the cultural Marxist and has been mindlessly parroted by every self-righteous, holier-than-thou neo-puritan to come down the pike since 1865 but it is still a LIE.
The South fought to defend its self. Period.
One might make a plausible argument that the South SECEEDED to preserve slavery (and there is no doubt that this was a motivation for the small percentage that actually had an economic stake in Slavery) this however is just simply NOT THE SAME THING.
Lincoln and his yankee mercantilist cronies deliberately PROVOKED the South into war for reasons that had nothing to do with slavery. _________________ "The love of money is the root of this, as of many other evils. The quarrel between the North and South is, as it stands, solely a fiscal quarrel."

| Slave Ownership rates indeed are low, I think its between 4-5% of the total white population in 1860 actually possessed slaves (its actually true that freed blacks owned slaves too). Just because you don't own a slave doesn't mean that you still don't fear Emancipation, and its not surprising to find SC seceding first because slaves actually account for more than half the total population. So, even though you may not own a slave, you may certainely fear a slave backlash, particularly in states where slave numbers account for more than half the population because obviously in a democracy those numbers would 'control' - as it turned out the lure of Northern factories proved stronger than sharecropping in the Jim Crow south and a massive emigration to the North did take place. |

You are going in circles here.
AGAIN the fear a Haitian style slave insurrection in which white women and children would have their throats cut in the middle of the night, was certainly one factor in SECESSION (especially after some very prominent northerners supported just that with John Brown) but did that cause the war? Again just a patent lie.
“A massive emigration to the North (by blacks) did take place”
but not until WWI when their labor was desperately needed in northern factories. Several northern states (including “the land of Lincoln”) actually passed laws AGAINST black immigration into their states! Most blacks who left their homes during and just after the WBTS eventually returned home. The one’s who couldn’t or didn’t went west (to Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas) and NOT north! _________________ "The love of money is the root of this, as of many other evils.
