Oklahoma might not be as rich in Civil War history as Pennsylvania or Virginia, however, there were significant battles and forts in Indian Territory and the surrounding area. Just a few of these include:
Battle of Honey Springs: Fought July 17, 1863, between Union soldiers led by Gen. James Blunt and Confederate soldiers led by Gen. Douglas Cooper.
Battle of Middle Boggy Depot: Fought on Feb. 13, 1864, this battle saw the Union troops of Maj. Charles Willette victorious over the Confederate forces of Col. John Jumper.
