Hello, just joined and am looking forward to learning more about the Civil War. I was born in Nashville Tennessee, but have lived in Florida for almost 30 years.
I am an Artist and was in Commercial Art for over 35 years. I have always been a Fine Artist and have recently started a Civil War Series. I have 3 finished paintings in the series and am working on 3 more at this time, one being a portrait of Robert E Lee.
I have joined this forum to learn more about the Civil War so that my work can be as Authentic as I can possible make it. _________________ Linda Eades Blackburn

| I am a new member here and very interested in Freemasonry in the Civil War. Does anyone know if this has been discussed already in this forum? I would hate to duplicate something that has already been covered. Are there any other Freemasons that call this Forum home? I would love to hear from fellow Masonic Civil War buffs. |

Hello, Indianscout,
I am 2nd degree Mason and have had a very high interest in the Civil War since I was 16. That was when I first saw GWTW. I am in western ILL. The follks out here are mostly Unionizers, so I can't fly The South Shall Rise Agagin flag. I would be what is called a Copperhead out here. I would love to go visit Gettysburg for the history and of course... ghosts LOL. But, seriously,To be there where it all happened, so many years ago. To go back in time. Alas, my body wouldn't be able to handle it.
I did think of buying land out there, but the prices were out of sight for me.I looked into patterns for a civil war dress. OMG!!! How did these women even move ! Steel hoops, corsets that darn near forbade you to even breathe ! LOL.
I live in a 150 yr. old Victorian, which will be on the Christmas House Tour this year. I thought it would be fun to dress in the attire of the era that this house was built, 1859. I was in hysterics laughing at the thought of me trying to get my robust butt through these doors in a steel hooped dress ! I'd Kill somebody , that's for certain ! Can ypou just imagine me tripping over the dress and falling ? Bottoms Up Ladies !!! Forget about trying to get me back up... you'd have to find me first ! It would be a sight that NO ONE would forget. Well, at least it would make this house THE talk of the county, afterall, it is THE oldest house in the county.
I can see it now... "Did you see Ms. M ?" ..."No, she was submerged in yards of crinoline ! "
They are all very much into the Historical meeting of the Linciln -Douglas debate. They are working very hard on creating a historical aspect to bring in tourists to Hannibal, Mo. and Quincy, ILL.
So and So slept here and the like, even Macomb, ILL is tring to get on the bandwagon of hopefully prosperity. Even in Augusta, ILL, there is a rock with a bronze plaque in it stating that Linciln spoke there, for all of what 30 minutes, if that ? Before he hopped back on the train. By the Daughters of the Civil War. There is a big push to trace the underground railroad from Mo, into ILL, and up to Galesberg. Supposedly, this house was a stop. But I haven't been able to find anything that would verify that.
Sadly, I am one of the few who feel that the South should have won. If only General Lee headed for Washington, instead of staying at Gettysburg...... |
