Slavery could conceivably be considered ONE of the causes of SECESSION. (It could be considered ONE of the causes of the secession of the Texas from Mexico too for that matter) Nevertheless even if slavery were the one and ONLY cause of secession it is still ABSURD to try and pretend that it was even one of the causes of the war.
Remember, secession and war are two entirely different things! I don’t care what the politically correct believe. The LATTER is most certainly NOT the inevitable result of the former!!!
If it was and is then why was there no war on Norway when She seceded from the Kingdom of Sweden? Why was there no war when Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and several other “soviet republics” seceded from the Soviet Union? If Quebec ever realises Her dream of independence from Canada do you think the Canadians will immediately begin a war of aggression on them? Do you think that the Québécois will deliberately start a war with their much more powerful neighbour?
I doubt it.
Don’t you?
I think the Canadians are too law abiding and moral a people and the Québécois to smart for that!
It is obvious that the War to Suppress yankee Arrogance had only ONE cause and that had absolutely nothing to do with slavery. That one cause was Lincoln’s deliberately provoking the Confederacy into “firing the first shot” to defend its self so that he would have an excuse to mount an illegal and unjustified invasion for the purpose of gaining control of the wealth of the South.
The people of the seven States that had seceded before Sumter had done so peacefully and constitutionally. They had no intention and no desire to get into a war with a much larger (five times as large at that point) and more powerful United States. Some of them may have been “fire eaters” but by and large they were not idiots! They had sent peace delegations to Washington and had offered to PAY for any and all federal property within their territory and even offered to pay their share of the national debt. Those delegations were rebuffed out of hand BEFORE SUMTER. Lincoln then proceeded to try and reinforce both Sumter and Pickens. This was a patent and overt ACT OF WAR and Lincoln knew full well what the outcome would be. The fact is “honest abe” and his yankee mercantilist backers CHOSE war!
Cultural Marxist neo-puritans can claim that the war was caused by slavery and those Americans that have been rendered by their “education” incapable of thinking logically or independently can believe that pap till h--l freezes over.
The very idea is still patently absurd.

That's true. Lies can't be true. But, that doesn't mean that the South didn't have thier part in starting the war. _________________ A stupid man can never give more then a simple explanation of what a genius said. - Adam Harmon (who happens to be me)

Yes, you are right, and the winner of every war writes history. it may be "right", but it can never be "true". depends on your perspective. _________________ HAPPY YEAR OF THE RAT!!! |
